History

History teaching focuses on enabling children to think as historians in a fun and exciting way. At Broomgrove Infant School we provide a high-quality History curriculum that has been carefully designed and sequenced to equip our children with a secure, coherent knowledge about local, British and world history. Curriculum content is knowledge, vocabulary and experience rich.

At Broomgrove Infant school we aim to:

  • To foster and maintain an interest and curiosity about the past in their local area, Britain and the wider world
  • Enable children to know about significant events/people in History and to appreciate how and why things may have changed over time
  • Develop pupils understanding of chronology
  • Help children understand society and their place within it
  • Develop a sense of their own cultural heritage
  • Develop skills of enquiry and investigation

It is vital that the children have the opportunity to develop their skills, language and understanding of a variety of historical events, people and the impact it had on the present day through planned lessons that all children, including those with SEND, can access as well as opportunities for use of artefacts and visits/trips to provide practical experiences.
