At Broomgrove Infants, Physical Education and Sport have a vital role to play in the physical, social and emotional development of children. This gives children the knowledge, understanding, confidence and the tools to make a positive impact on their own health and well-being.
During their time at Broomgrove children will be able to take part in a wide range of physical activities including games, dance, gymnastics, swimming and athletics.
The Year 2 girls enjoyed a cheerleading workshop with coach Chantelle. The girls worked on their cheer, tumbling and dance skills to put together an amazing routine. Well done girls!
We took part in a local cricket festival at Brightlingsea Sports Centre. We learnt to play 3 Tees cricket and plan to teach the rest of the school. We played a number of games and recieved a medal for our hard work and being good sports.
We are currently working on a whole school dance project with Miss Bobbie. Each year group is working to create a dance based on a different theme. The theme in Reception is Africa, Year One are focusing on Dinosaurs and South America and Year Two are looking at London, linking to The Great Fire of London. Watch this space for more pictures and videos!
This year at Broomgove, we have created a sports council. Year 2 were invited to apply for a role within the sports council, giving reasons why they would be a good addition.
Role of the sports council:
* Be an active sports leader at lunchtimes by setting up and putting away equipment, as well as making sure lunchtimes are fun, enjoyable and safe for all.
* Assist Mrs Llewellyn in making decisions on how PE can improve within the school, such as tournaments, after school clubs, sports afternoons and sports day.
Meet our sports council:
For their first job, the newly elected sports council organised and set up a whole school sports afternoon. We had great fun completing each activity and it was lovely to be out on the field together as a school. Thank you to the sports council for their hard work!
As part of our PE learning, the whole school have had the opportunity to enjoy a block of yoga lessons taught to us by a specialist yoga coach. Yoga teaches us balance, co-ordination and strength, as well as improving memory, focus and self esteem. It can also help reduce anxiety and stress.
This term, the children in EYFS are learning to use the apparatus safely during their P.E lessons.
